Open Enrollment Information

At Treasure Valley Health Insurance, we want you to know what to expect during Open Enrollment this year, and as always, invite you to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have.

If you have a grandfathered plan outside of the Affordable Care Act (ACA):
Your company will send you a document covering any changes in rates beginning at your next renewal, which may or may not be January 1st. They will also inform you if you need to do anything to continue coverage. In most cases, you won’t need to do anything.

If you have an ACA plan purchased on the Marketplace (
--- If you wish to stay on your current policy and have no tax credit:
You need to do nothing. Your new rates will change as of January 1st, based on the communication you received from your health insurance company, such as Blue Cross.
--- If you wish to stay on your current policy and you have a tax credit:
Renewal of your policy will happen automatically and you need to do nothing, but
YOUR TAX CREDIT MAY NOT AUTOMATICALLY RENEW. By now you should have received a letter from the Department of Health and Welfare explaining what they need from you to review your tax credit eligibility. If you do not send them that information by the deadline given in the letter, your tax credit will stop and you will be required to pay the entire amount of your policy premium in January. If you require assistance with getting information to the Department of Health and Welfare, please contact us. The website for the department where you may update your info is

If you wish to change policies for 2020:
You can begin reviewing available insurance plans on the marketplace on October 1st. You may enroll in a new plan starting November 1st. To shop anonymously for available plans in October or to change your plan on Your Health Idaho in November, you need to go to and sign into your account.
To change plans, you must DIS-ENROLL your current policy effective January 1st, and then enroll in a new policy. The enrollment period starts November 1st and YOUR DEADLINE TO MAKE CHANGES IS DECEMBER 16TH.

If you have a plan purchased outside of the Marketplace (
Your plan will automatically renew unless you have been contacted by your insurance company with an exception to your renewal. Review all communications you receive from your health insurance company carefully.

If you want to review or change your plan, contact your insurance company directly or contact us and we will help you shop for a new plan.

If you have been told by your insurance company that your 2019 policy will not be available in 2020, your insurance company will automatically enroll you in a different policy of their choosing if you choose to do nothing. If you do not want to move to the new policy they have selected for you, then you need to follow instructions in the letter that they sent you to choose a different policy. You need to do nothing; your policy will renew in 2020. If you would like to shop for new plans, you may do so on the marketplace or on your insurance company’s website. We are happy to provide plan options for you if you prefer, just contact us to let us know what you are looking for in an insurance plan and we’ll send options to you.

For all clients: Please note that in many cases there have been changes in coverage for policies starting in January. Please read the renewal information you get from the companies thoroughly so that you are not surprised in January.

If we can make your renewal easier for you in any way, please do not hesitate to contact us. We are here to help in any way we can!

Thank you for your trust and allowing us to serve you.
